Inspired by Tulsa, Oklahoma's Greenwood District known as Black Wall Street. Greenwood Avenue featured luxury shops, restaurants, movie theaters, a library, pool halls, and nightclubs. It was one of the most affluent African American communities in the United States. This image was designed to honor and remember the legacy of the community lost during the Tulsa Massacre. The massacre, which began on May 31, 1921, left hundreds of Black residents dead, thousands of homes, and more than 35 square blocks of the district were destroyed.
